Well we all knew it was coming someday and now it’s official, Courtney Love’s memoir will be published later this year with a release date of December 15. You’re probably as surprised as I am that this develop did not come about sooner being that Love has been crying the “I’m broke” bit for some time now; barred from dipping into her daughter Frances Bean’s trust fund. Love's endeavors have been as fierce as her attitude in her efforts to get back into the spotlight, including unsuccessfully trying to get her old band Hole back together.
The book’s debut Courtney Love: My Story, will be released prior to Love’s new album titled Died Blonde. In May 2013 it was announced that Love would do an eighteen-date North America tour in support of the new album, but it ended up being revamped to a “greatest hits” tour due to the impending release of the record. On this tour I got to see up close and personal Love’s erratic behavior when I had an unpleasant chance meeting with her and she went off the wall over my Dave Grohl iphone case. Love has been very vocal of her unwarranted dislike of the Foo Fighters frontman.
Putting aside Love’s unusual conduct through the years, she was married to Kurt Cobain, who was not just lead singer of one of the greatest rock bands, Nirvana, but an extremely talented and complex soul. In addition, Love was in the throws of rock and roll during the central era of grunge music in the 90s, not only in the midst of her band Hole but within her husband’s band as well. So, does Love have a story to tell? I’m sure the answer is yes. But will it be a story that’s credible and worth hearing? That all depends on Love’s intentions to share real truths in a way that is telling and fair-minded, and not just to make a buck.
