Courtney Cox promises more cleavage and nudity while promoting the transition of “Cougar Town” to cable network TBS. At the winter Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena yesterday, Courtney Cox vowed, “You will not see one scene where I don’t show my boobs”. “Cougar Town” makes its leap from ABC to TBS on Tuesday, January 8, and one change for the show’s fourth season will be more cleavage. Co-creator Bill Lawrence highlighted some of the changes, and lack thereof, when the show premieres next week. Although a title change for the show was discussed, and dismissed, the underlying theme of the newser was that there will be less clothing for the cast, male and female, next season.
Courtney Cox, 48, joked that she wants to take focus off her aging face by exposing her boobs, according to Access Hollywood. “You know what? I'm getting older, so I've decided at this point I'm taking less focus [on] the face, and focusing here”, pointing to her chest. “By the time I'm much older, I will just be absolutely nude”, she added.
Bill Lawrence couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a swipe at ABC, the show’s former home. “I don’t know if you’ve seen them but there’s commercials for this show now, it’s insane”, he joked, obviously meant to show up the former network’s lack of support and promotion for the sit-com.
TBS was against changing the show’s controversial name. The channel’s programming head Michael Wright said, “‘Cougar Town’ had become part of the humor…why change something that we all appreciate that’s part of the show’s humor…why [move away] from all the marketing that had already been done [in support of the show]”.
Lawrence also kidded about the upcoming disrobing of the cast in saying, “the big difference is we’ve shifted from Brian Van Holt not wearing his shirt all the time to Josh Hopkins not wearing his shirt all the time”. Cable channels are notorious for showing much more skin than the big three major broadcast networks.
According to Entertainment Weekly, one storyline in the upcoming season features Courtney’s character Jules Cobb creating a “naked day” in an attempt to liven up her marriage to Hopkin’s Grayson Ellis.
The idea came from one of the writers on the show who had done it in real life. According to Lawrence the writer claimed, “It was sexy for about five minutes and then it was just two middle aged people standing around naked”.
The cast did say that there will be no actual nudity however. Aww!
