Courtney Ann Sanford died in a car accident last Thursday seemingly just seconds after posting to Facebook as she drove. The 32-year-old woman from North Carolina had just posted about how much she loved Pharrell Williams' song “Happy” when she then apparently crossed the median and slammed in to a truck head-on.
My Fox 8 shares that Courtney Ann Sanford posted the “Happy” reference at 8:33 a.m. while the call about the accident came in at 8:34 a.m. Investigators checking into her online activity have noted that she had posted a number of selfies that same morning as she was apparently driving. Lt. Chris Weisner shares, “As sad as it is, it is a great reminder for everyone… You just have to pay attention while you are in the car.”
Luckily the driver of the truck, John Wallace Thompson, 73, was not injured. In addition to the social media posting surely affecting Sanford's driving, investigators note that she also was not properly using her seatbelt. The photos from the location of the Courtney Ann Sanford's accident show a heartbreaking scene that serves as a reminder for drivers both young and old that social media and driving simply do not mix.
