Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry will air a (possibly) romantic reunion this spring, in an April episode of NBC’s “Go On,” but it won’t be Monica re-uniting with Chandler. Each star currently has a starring role in a comedy series, reports the Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, Feb. 5, but Cox will make the guest appearance on Perry’s show.
The Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry reunion – remember all that “Friends” chemistry? – centers around a new character whom series regular Anne tries to set up with Ryan. There might be romance and there might not, depending upon the script, but it’s a sure guess any romance will be short or blighted or somehow dysfunctional. That’s the nature of sit-coms.
Various “Friends” reunions are old hat around the television circuits. Courteney Cox, a regular on TBS’ “Cougar Town,” has starred with Lisa Kudrow, with David Schwimmer, and with Jennifer Aniston. Some of those stars, and the people behind the scenes, have also had mini-reunions in various episodes of various shows. But so far, no one has tried to put the old gang – or even couples from the old gang – together for long.
But picture this. Suppose Ryan and the blind date hit it off? Suppose they actually get something going? Could that become part of a new story line? It doesn’t fit well with Ryan’s angst-ridden character, but when did that sort of thing matter in a sit-com?
