Courteney Cox on directing ‘Cougar Town’, a ‘Braveheart’ parody, & her daughter

“Courteney’s first episode that she directed on this show is where my character Andy does a bit from Braveheart, and so I get to have the Mel Gibson facial paint, but it’s red instead of blue because it was lipstick. And so that was my favorite episode of this season so far,” Cougar Town series star Ian Gomez told LA TV Insider Examiner when we visited the Los Angeles set before production wrapped on the comedy’s third season earlier this year.

But that episode, entitled "Full Moon Fever," may be the first Cox has directed of the comedy she also produces, but it will not be the last-- not even this season. She takes a turn behind the camera twice before the end of year three, and she even gets a chance to give direction to a very special family member: her daughter, Coco!

In a plot that involves Bobby (Brian Van Holt) desperate to keep a white shirt its natural color, Cox inserted a cameo by her daughter, walking along and threatening his cleanliness.

“I hope it stays in,” she said of the moment in the episode. “I set some Jaws music to this. You cut to Coco; she’s just walking with a double scoop of chocolate ice cream.”

Cougar Town airs on Tuesday nights at 8:30pm only on ABC. Cox’ Cougar Town directorial debut airs on March 6th 2012.
