Court Date Set for Tennis Coach Accused of Inappropriate Touching

Roberto DeFreitas, the Twin Cities tennis coach charged with fourth degree criminal sexual conduct involving a 14-year-old girl, is scheduled to appear in Hennepin County District Court January 8, 2010. He was arrested on Dec. 10 and held in the Hennepin County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail before being released for days later.

DeFreitas, who resides in St. Paul, was a part-time instructor at the
Fort Snelling Tennis and Learning Center in Minneapolis where the alleged
inappropriate conduct occurred on November 21. According to court records,
the 47 year old DeFreitas admitted to slapping the girl on the buttocks and making suggestive
comments about her breast when interviewed by Minneapolis police. He was
arrested after the girl's father contacted the police on December 3.

DeFreitas has been a tennis instructor at the facility, also known as the
Fred Wells Tennis and Education Center, for over five years and was also
employed by St. Paul Public Schools as a girls' tennis coach at Central
High School.
