Costs are rising, deficits are growing and states are making cuts. Here in Waco alone our major school district recently laid off 200+ employees only to rehire them back at lower rates of pay. Schools are hurting and there is something that we as couponers can do about it.
As you may not have ever considered, there are more things than just sale price and coupon value to consider when making purchases that include box tops for education. For example, some if not all Yoplait Go Gurt packages contain two box tops for education. Say, for instance, that the Go Gurt is on sale for $3.00 and you have a coupon for 75 cents off of the purchase of 2 Go Gurts. The out of pocket expense for you would be $5.25 and you would earn 40 cents in box tops. If you then take that money earned for your child’s school into account as a donation, then you truly have only spent $4.85 for 2 boxes of 16+ individually packages yogurts and you managed to make money for your child’s school district.
Therefore, when you plan your coupon trips take into account the items that you can purchase that will also allow you to earn money for your child’s school. While we cannot simply pay out of pocket for our school’s budget shortfalls we can make conscious purchasing decisions that will little by little make a difference.
