A couple wins the lottery for the second time, just as their $2.5 annuity prize was about to expire next year from their first win. These average everyday folks somehow have the luck on their side as they won another Powerball jackpot for $1million. According to Belga News on Sunday, March 10, 2013, the couple’s first win was in 1995.
One thing that was different this time around, said Diane Carmichael, it was her husband Kerry’s ticket that won this time, last time it was Diane’s ticket that awarded them millions. The $125,000 that they opted to take annually for the first lottery jackpot win is due to expire in December of 2014.
This is the Tempe, Arizona retired couple’s second big jackpot win in 17 years. They hit the million dollar jackpot in Wednesday’s drawing.
According to Karen Bach, director of budget and communications for the Arizona Lottery, “Arizona has seen a substantial increase in the number of new millionaires statewide since $2 Powerball launched and we only expect that trend to continue.”
The Carmichaels said they will “consult a financial advisor and resist the urge to splurge” with their new million dollar win. What’s the secret to their double win? They play often and consider themselves very lucky.
