A couple found a special surprise on Valentine’s Day, but chose to do the right thing and return it to its owner. According to a Feb. 20 Associated Press report, a couple spending some quality time on San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge on Valentine’s Day found a camera bag containing $11,000 in a nearby parking lot.
Carlos and Barbara Landeros of Vallejo, Calif., were reportedly on a romantic dinner date when they spotted the unattended bag. “I got nervous at first, it could be drug money,” Barbara told NBCBayArea.com. “I was scared.”
The couple turned the bag and its contents, including credit cards to police authorities, who subsequently located the owner, a Chinese tourist, Mark. He had mistakenly left the camera bag behind. It turned out it was Mark’s lucky day because the cash in the bag did not belong to him. He had been put in charge of holding on to the loot for several other family members who were traveling with him.
Mark thanked the couple and told them he put a check in the mail as a reward. The couple can use the reward to pay for a dinner date, especially since they never had the opportunity to enjoy the planned romantic Valentine’s Day dinner date. They reportedly got stuck in traffic and settled for McDonalds.
