Couple can't stop doing coffee enemas, on the TLC show 'My Strange Addiction'

Many people use interesting methods to stay healthy. But one Florida couple is hooked on coffee enemas, as much as four times a day.

TLC announced Saturday, it will highlight the couple's addiction on the season premiere of the show "My Strange Addiction" set to air February 13. Mike and Trina of St. Petersburg revealed to TLC that they have been doing the coffee enemas at home for two years.

They don't drink coffee, but they spend several hours a day flushing out their colons with fresh-brewed coffee beans.

"Once in a 24-hour period, I probably did nine or 10," Trina said on the TLC show.

The two discussed how they enjoy different types of coffees that go with each of their personalities.

"I like a finer, almost espresso grind," Mike said.

"I like it thicker, because I think it's not as messy and drippy," Trina added.

The couple work from home, and often can't leave the house very long due to their habit.

Trina discovered coffee enemas while looking for an answer to her stomach problems. Her husband soon tried it.

Enemas using coffee aren't new or unheard of. Dr. Roshini Rajapaksa, a gastroenterologist at NYU Medical Center, tells ABCNews.com some people claim coffee enemas cleanse the colon and can fight cancer. But Rajapaksa does not recommend them.

"The bottom line is there is not any beneficial effect and there is some risk associated with any enema and, in particular, using coffee," she said.
