On Jan. 29 Fox News reports that a New Mexico couple is being held on $25,000 cash bond for locking up a developmentally disabled girl in a wooden crate while they took the other children to a movie at the local elementary school. The girl that was locked in the cage suffers from microcephaly-- a developmental disability where the head is disproportionate to the rest of the body.
The couple are being charged with child abuse charges after police were notified that the girl was not with the family at the elementary school when the children's father showed up to the school. Police had to wait at the mobile home for over an hour for Patriarchais and Gonzalez to return home to find the girl in a wooden crate approximately two-feet by four-feet with a crib mattress in the corner of a bedroom. She was locked in by two latches that held the homemade wooden crate closed. The girl was physically unharmed but is now in child protective services.
A police spokesperson says that Cindy Patriarchais was trying to adopt the girl but couldn't get a hold of her birth mother to get consent and finalize the papers. It doesn't seem likely that they will have the opportunity to do so as people charged with child abuse aren't allowed to adopt children in the system.
Lately there have been all kinds of acts of child abuse going on around the world such as the poor toddler whose mother held him down to be tattooed despite the fact that he was terrified.
What do you think of these horrible acts of child abuse going on around the world?
