Couple arraigned on charges of human trafficking

An out-of-state couple was arraigned February 25 on charges including human trafficking for forcing a teenage girl to dance at strip clubs and keeping the proceeds. The charges were brought by Attorney General Bill Schuette’s Human Trafficking Unit.

It is alleged that Taryn Johnson, 27, of Tennessee met the 18-year-old victim and lured her into dancing, promising her a good income.

But co-defendant Vinson Alexander, 30, from Florida, took the money and threatened to beat the teen if she didn’t go along with the scheme.

On Thursday, February 21 Alexander assaulted the victim, seriously hurting her.

The case was investigated by the Southfield police, assisted by the FBI. The pair was arrested Friday.

Alexander was arraigned in the 46th district court on a number of human trafficking charges and a count of torture, enough to put him away for life if convicted. His bail was set at $1 million.

Johnson faces one count of human trafficking, a 10 year felony. Her bail was set at $750,000.

It is not known whether either defendant has a lawyer yet.
