Members of the Oklahoma County Republican Party Executive Committee held their October 2013 meeting last night. Among the items discussed were the actions of Carolyn Caudill, the recently arrested County Clerk, also a Republican. Clerk Caudill was arrested on September 17th, 2013 for DUI and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. News reports indicate this is not her “first brush with the law”. Due to this pattern of behavior, a petition was circulated by those in attendance that reads as follows:
Petition to Oklahoma Attorney General Pruitt
On September 17th, 2013, Oklahoma County Clerk Carolynn Caudill was arrested on one count of Driving Under the Influence and one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident. We hold that our elected officials maintain a standard in this County and State, and this is reflected in Oklahoma Law:
§22‑1181. Causes for removal of officers: Any officer not subject to impeachment elected or appointed to any state, county, township, city, town, or other office under the laws of the state may, in the manner provided in this article, be removed from office for any of the following causes:
First: Habitual or willful neglect of duty.
Second: Gross partiality in office.
Third: Oppression in office.
Fourth: Corruption in office.
Fifth: Extortion or willful overcharge of fees in office.
Sixth: Willful maladministration.
Seventh: Habitual drunkenness.
Eighth: Failure to produce and account for all public funds and property in his hands, at any settlement or inspection authorized or required by law.
Disturbingly, a similar event of leaving the scene of an accident in 2011 has been reported in the press that also resulted in property damages (The Oklahoman, “Records show Oklahoma County Clerk Carolynn Caudill ducked police two years ago after her car sideswiped another vehicle”, Published September 21, 2013). According to the article, she was allowed to plead down to a traffic ticket, despite reports of erratic and unsafe driving on a major highway in Oklahoma City.
It is our sincere hope that Clerk Caudill is seeking help for the problem it seems she has, before endangering others (again) with her actions. However, the citizens of Oklahoma County deserve better from our County elected officials.
Therefore, we the undersigned citizens of Oklahoma County and members of the Oklahoma County Republican Party Executive Committee hereby request that you investigate and, if just cause be found by your office, refer this matter to the next Multi-County Grand Jury for investigation and possible prosecutorial action, if the Jury deems it appropriate.
We thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

The Petition requesting action was delivered today to the office of Attorney General Scott Pruitt for consideration.
