County Parks Department offers children's art classes and basketry workshops

Looking for arts and crafts classes for kids? The Hunterdon County Parks will be offering the following art classes and basketry workshops for the spring/summer season for children 6 years and older.

Art Classes

Young Artist Drawing and Painting
Session A: Six Saturdays March 2-April (no class March 30)
Session B: Six Saturdays, April 27-June 8 (no class May 25)
Ages 6 -10
Cost: $80

Artists-in-Training Drawing and Painting
Session A: Six Saturdays, March 2-April 13 (no class March 30)
Session B: Six Saturdays, April 27-June 8 (no class May 25)
Ages 11-15
Cost: $90

Both classes will teach students of each age group the principles of painting and drawing using a pencil, charcoal and paints. The classes are good for any skill level and will concentrate on understanding color, composition and using materials properly. Materials are included in the cost of each class.

Kidz Art for Homeschooled
Session A: Six Wednesdays, March 6-April 10
Session B: Six Wednesdays, April 24-May 29
Ages 8-15
Cost: $90

Students will explore paintings by famous artists such as Picasso and Van Gogh. Students will also work with a charcoal, pastel, acrylic and watercolor and paint from still life, photograph or outdoors, weather permitting.

Children’s Basketry Workshops

Children’s Simple Basket with Beads
Friday, March 1 from 5:30-8:00 p.m.
Ages 6 and up, accompanied by an adult
Cost: $8

Children will work with their parents to make a beaded basket with braided rim.

Kidz Trinket Basket
Saturday, April 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Ages 11 and up
Cost: $25

Kids learn the process of making a basket. They will make a simple round basket that is woven around a mold.

Children’s Napkin Basket
Friday, May 17 form 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Ages 9 and up, accompanied by an adult
Cost is $12 and includes materials.

Children will choose flat reed in a variety of colors and work with their parents to weave a square basket.

Lena Shiffman will be the art class instructor and Liz Braidwood Fulmer will be the basketry workshop instructor. The materials needed for each class are included in the cost.All classes will be held at the County Arboretum located at 1020 Highway 31, Lebanon, N.J.
