Sammy Kershaw loves to cook as much in his kitchen as he does on stage but this time the things he was cooking with were so hot his kitchen caught fire yesterday.
Seriously thought, thanks to a smoke alarm system and the quick actions of Sammy and the first responders, Sammy’s Louisiana home was saved. His kitchen has suffered severe smoke and water damage but that all can be fixed and more importantly, Sammy is okay.
Sammy’s publicist reports that “Kershaw inadvertently started the fire when he grabbed cans of homemade spices he was delivering to a friend. The box containing the spices slid over the kitchen stove, catching the knobs that ignited the burners. Kershaw says there were likely flammable items on the stove top that caught fire.
After leaving his home, his alarm company alerted him of the blaze. Kershaw immediately returned home and threw towels onto the stovetop to help smother the flames. Shortly after, firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze.
"You've got to count your blessings... every one of them," says Kershaw. "This could have been so much worse. The guardian angel that God assigned to me is always working overtime."
No one was injured in the blaze.”
Sammy is currently touring with Aaron Tippin and Joe Diffie in their Roots to Boots tour. He was home on a short break from the tour when the fire incident occurred.
The trio is releasing a new single called, “In the Same Boat,” which is a tongue in cheek song about fishing, relationships and friendship. It is sure to be big hit coming to a fishing hole near you this spring.
