Country singer Chely Wright and her wife, Lauren Blitzer-Wright, are expecting two little bundles of joy this summer. The 42-year-old country star confirmed the lesbian couple is expecting identical twins -- and it's the the country star who's pregnant, USA Today reports today (Thursday). “When gay couples have babies, it’s logistically a little different than when straight people have babies, as we all know,” Wright is quoted as saying. “It’s been an [amazing] experience.”
Wright first confirmed she's pregnant during an interview on the YouTube show Gwissues. "We're excited to be parents and we hope we don't mess it up too badly!" Wright joked. The pregnant country star's due date is in July -- which just adds to the growing list of celebrity babies due that month. Kate Middleton and Prince William and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are also expecting their first children in July.
Wright and Blitzer, 31 married in 2011 after a year-long courtship. Blitzer is an activist for LGBT rights. Despite having a previous relationship with Brad Paisley more than a decade ago, Wright is credited with being the first major country star to publicly come out as gay.
The twins will be the first children for both Chely Wright and Lauren Blitzer-Wright.
