The 87-year-old singer has been in and out of hospitals several times this year after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer late in 2012.
According to his Facebook Page, from Janie Price, her husband developed SEPSIS, “a bad bacteria infection in his blood line” and “treatment was started.”
“Rays blood pressure dropped too low and his heart rate too high,” she said.
“We were in watchful crisis all night long and through out early morning hours before he stabilized,” Price continued from her husband’s bedside in a Houston hospital. “Dr. Red Duke is here in charge and coordinating all of the Specialists treating Ray.”
Although he was told during a Houston hospital checkup visit his cancer was in remission, Price has since experienced more health issues with dehydration and intense pain from kidney stones.
“I am at Rays bedside and have not left him for a second,” Price wrote. “I will continue to be ever watchful and give updates as Ray continues to improve. Please remember Ray in your prayers tonight. Blessings To All!”
Price, whose hits include classic country songs like “Release Me,” “For the Good Times,” “Make the World Go Away,” “Heartaches by the Number” and “Crazy Arms” had to cancel pending tours, including the Willie Nelson Fourth of July picnic this summer.
Price recently told his Facebook fans that he was “touched and deeply moved by your love and prayers and good wishes."
"You all have moved me to tears!!
“I have dedicated my entire life to country music and my fans. To have folks like you supporting me still after 60 years is more than any artist could ever dream of.
As a little boy down on my Dads farm, I prayed that I would be able to sing so pretty that people would come from all over and ask, "Who is that singing such a pretty song?”
Well, that prayer was answered and if I never sing again I am a happy man and no one can take that away from me.
I know love can move a mountain, so it has not all been in vain!"
