This past September, two country music fans revealed the website project, Country Music Cares. Amanda and Jennifer, founders of the website, have no affiliation with the country music industry. They are fans, fans with a love for country music and a love for making the world a better place. The website offers visitors the chance to see what artists are doing and learn about upcoming charity events and auctions.
Over ten years ago, Jennifer and her mother Debbie started the organization “Christmas Kids.” Christmas Kids was developed to help underprivileged families in their hometown of Paducah, Kentucky. In 2008, Jennifer and her mother were able to raise $15,000. The $15,000 went to provide hand-selected underprivileged students from the Paducah area with: one coat, several outfits, shoes, socks, underwear and a toy. For most of the families, it was all that their child would receive that Christmas.
Throughout 2009, Jennifer, cofounder of Country Music Cares, has attended concerts, award shows and other country music events, determined to collect as many autographs as possible. But unlike many other fans, who simply collect the autographs for their own personal use, Jennifer had other intentions in mind. In 2009, Jennifer collected 54 autographed albums (she purchased the albums herself, then had them signed by the artist) which she will put up on eBay. One-hundred percent of the auction proceeds will be donated to her organization “Christmas Kids.” The Country Music Care auction will feature signed albums from: Carrie Underwood, Gloriana, Julianne Hough, Kellie Pickler, Lady Antebellum, Reba, Sara Evans, Sarah Darling, Taylor Swift, Whitney Duncan and many other country artists.
Since announcing the Christmas Kids project on the official Country Music Cares twitter account, several fan twitter sites have stepped up to help. Whitney Duncan Fans, Kate and Kacey Fans, Eli Young Band Fans and our very own twitter account, Country Girl News will all donate “10 Until 10”. Each page will donate ten cents for every new follower from now until December 10, 2009. One-hundred percent of the money raised between now and then will be donated directly to “Christmas Kids.”
Update: Many other twitter fan sites have signed up for the "10 Until 10." We'll keep the list updated, so check back often.
