The season of the fall harvest is being celebrated in the suburbs surrounding Chicago on Sept. 27-28-29, 2013. Celebrate the old-fashioned farm at the farm stands and festivals in the outlying areas of the city. Nostalgic country fests this weekend include events in Barrington, Buffalo Grove/Lincolnshire, Huntley, Long Grove, Morris, Hampshire, Spring Grove. Following are country and farm themed festivals this weekend.
Barrington: The 29th Annual Barrington Art in the Barn art show is held on Sat. and Sun. on the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The art show is arranged in and around the old barns on the hospital property. Fine art and jewelry is on display and ready for purchase from over 180 artists Live entertainment plays on the main stage. Kids can enjoy a pony ride or design their own art in the Children's Art Tent. Food and refreshments are available for sale. Admission $5, free for children under 12.
Huntley: Huntley Fall Fest runs Fri.-Sun. in the far northwestern suburbs of Chicago. Huntley Fall Fest offers family fun during final weekend of Sept.
Long Grove: Long Grove's Annual Apple Fest runs Fri.Sun. in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Apple Fest a celebration of Autumn in Long Grove
Morris: Grundy County Corn Fest runs Sept. 25-29. The weekend of festivities includes country themed exhibits, including the Corn, Grain and Flower Show; Hobby and Handicraft Show; and Craft Show and Flea Market. Attractions include the farm show, art show, Dave DiNaso's Traveling World of Reptiles, train rides, stagecoach rides, pony rides, petting show, Antique Tractor and Farm Machinery Show and more. Skinner's Amusement provides carnival rides. Music is played by live bands including Final Say, Recycle the Day, Hillbilly Rockstarz, ARRA, The G Brothers and Coleman Gross. A large selection of fair food is available and the beer tent offers liquid refreshments. Grundy County Corn Festival is located at the intersections of Interstate 80 and Illinois Route 47 in Historic Downtown Morris.
Buffalo Grove: Didier Farm's Pumpkinfest runs daily through Oct. 31. Activities include hayride and cornmaze (package deal only) $5, Pony rides, Exotic Zoo, Camels, Sunshine Crafts, corn maze and straw maze. The farm-stand sells fresh produce and, of course, pumpkins. The weekends are full of nostalgic county fair activities, with lemon shake-ups, kettle corn, cotton candy, grilled burgers and hot-dogs, and roasted sweet corn.Admission is free but there is a small fee for some of the kids activities and rides. Hampshire: Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival runs through Oct. 31. The family farm offers a celebration of the fall harvest with U-Pick pumpkins, kid's amusement rides, pony rides, train rides, refreshments, farmstand and more. Goebberts' is at 42W813 Reinking Road, Hampshire, Ill., in the western suburbs of Chicago.
South Barrington: Goebbert's Farm and Garden Fall Festival is a celebration of the harvest season that runs through Oct. 31. Experience the family farm, with attractions including 50 animals, up close including feeding a giraffe at eye level, pig racing, pony rides, camel rides, corn stalk maze, wagon ride, jumping pillow and more. these are just some of the activities. Red Barn Cafe & Bakery offers food and refreshments. The Fall Harvest Market offer fall produce, pumpkins, caramel apples, fresh apple cider donuts and Michigan Apples. Goebbert's is at 40 W. Higgins Rd in S. Barrington, Ill.
Spring Grove: Stade's Shades of Autumn Fall Festival runs weekends, Sat. and Sun., through Oct. 26. The farm festivals attractions include the farm-stand, corn maze, kids amusement rides, petting zoo, pony rides, tractor shows and the food and refreshment court. Pumpkins are available for sale and/or take the hayride out to the field to pick pumpkins yourself. Admission is free, $10 for unlimited rides. Stade's is in Spring Grove, in McHenry County, in the far northwestern suburbs of Chicago.
Spring Grove: Richardson's Adventure Farm is home to the world's largest corn maze. Activities include: 700' Zip Line, 50' Observation Tower, ORBiting (ride inside a giant, 11' Ball), Live Pig Races, jumping pillows, giant slides, pedal carts, wagon rides, Pumpkin Patch, picnic areas and cmpfires. Richardson's is at 9405 Richardson Road, Spring Grove, in McHenry County.
