Nahtasha Budhi-Buehler, the self-professed ‘Chocolate Bunny’ has long been known for hopping into various ventures with her bubbly personality and sensual persona, grabbing the attention of fans worldwide. Now with a new look and more slender physique, this ‘bunny’ is out to prove she can fit in any habitat, no matter what obstacles said habitats have presented.
“With all the racism and blocked opportunities I was facing, in Hollywood, because of being a black woman, I decided to flip the script,” the popular model candidly told Examiner.com. “I dyed my hair Platinum Blonde to show Hollywood that hair color does not define a person or their talent and that with blonde hair against my chocolate skin, I will look possibly even better than most pale skinned white women that wear blonde hair. Contrast is always more sexy.”
“The feedback I've been getting is great on a business level. On a personal level the feedback has been mixed, but it is necessary for family, friends and fans to understand that it's important in my business to always reinvent yourself.”
Since her last interview with Examiner.com in February, the recently married Budhi says she has cut down on carbohydrates, sugar and processed foods in an effort to maintain her noticeably slimmer build. However, her body hasn’t been the only thing undergoing a transition in 2013, as her royal revelation that her daughter, Darrian O’Brien Buru is a countess has brought her family loads of attention in recent months. Darrian is also the daughter of Canadian rap star, Darrin O’Brien Buru aka Snow, who is a descendant of King Brian Boru, the last King of Ireland.
However, the Jamaican-born beauty believes media in her native country has refused to acknowledge her family’s royal roots, chastising them in the process.
“From our business associates, this has been incredible news for them and it has opened up a world of new wonderful financial and career possibilities for myself, Snow and our child,” she said. But I will say I'm ashamed of my Jamaican people for not being more supportive of their royal family! Especially the media in Jamaica.”
“I, Nahtasha Budhi married a count of noble blood, Darrin O'Brien aka Snow and we had our baby, Countess Darrian Nahtasha O'Brien born in Jamaica. We produced a Jamaican of royal blood. That’s history!” she emphasized. “Had Snow been a black Jamaican deejay, then the Jamaican media would have been more supportive. But the laugh is on them.”
Snow found out about his royal lineage from his mother. He says this bit of history has done a lot for his family, but made it clear that going public with this was in no way a publicity stunt.
“My family has been dealing with our royal lineage, our properties, maintaining the taxes that go along with titles for generations,” he told Examiner.com. “We have always had political attention which we try to avoid! I was born into this so you can imagine there’s no extra attention really. Even important people I grew up with in the music business knew from my childhood and the new people that have found out love me and ask a lot of questions.”
“I was terrified to come out with revealing myself as a count. But the public and Jamaican people here have given me so much love and respect. I’m proud to be a Canadian Jamaican!” he declared. “Many people wonder why I would now come out and say I'm a Count. They might think it's a career thing, which it's not, because my first record Informer went double platinum and that was before I visited Jamaica the first time. I've always told everyone that I'm Irish born in Canada and performs Reggae music. The only reason I came out with this is information about my background, is because I want my daughter to know who she is culturally and be proud of who she is. She's old enough now that she knows about my roots, so if I didn't tell everybody who I really am and how deep my Irish roots go. If I can't say it, then my daughter will think it's something to be ashamed of.”
Now, Budhi hopes to chronicle her family’s royal roots in an upcoming book which focuses on King Brian Boru and his heritage.
“I will historically tell his story and the story of his descendants and their accomplishments including Snow's life story,” she said. “This book will be historically correct as well as romantic, political, and jaw dropping! Truth is stranger than fiction and that is what will make this book so exciting! My husband/producer, Chad Buehler will be producing this book as a movie after my book is published. God is good as there are already several publishers interested.”
The ‘Chocolate Bunny’ is in the process of filming a new movie as she assesses the many new career opportunities coming her way.
In the meantime, she is celebrating her birthday today in style from coast to coast, away from the glitz and glamour she is accustomed to as she enjoys her special day across New York and Los Angeles. She’s looking forward to her share of surprises and with the last few months as a backdrop, the masses can expect her to dish out her share very soon.
