Council supports higher minimum wage

The opportunity to earn ten dollars an hour at the minimum wage rate coming in California won a supportive vote on the San Diego city council, at its MOnday meeting. San Diego's own local minimum wage ordinance passed the council.

The ordinance sets a lower limit for sick days San Diego workers can earn during a year at 5 days.

Voters will vote on the wage increase and sick leave in Todd Gloria's Minimum Wage Initiative at the November election.

Local workers can count on higher minimum wage without relying on the state guarantee. The local wage hits ten dollars an hour in 2017, after the state minimum.
