Former Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Joey Coulter is set to compete in the Camping World Truck Series in 2014 for a new team owned by Allegiant Air CEO Maurice Gallagher. The team will be fielded out of the Coulter Motorsports shop in North Carolina.
Coulter competed full-time for KBM in the No. 18 Toyota Tundra in 2013, finishing 15th in points with five top 10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at Kansas in the spring.
Allegiant Air is a low-cost airline that is headquartered in Enterprise, Nevada, outside of Las Vegas. The team fielded entries in three Camping World Truck Series races in 2013 (Kansas, Texas and Homestead-Miami) for Spencer Gallagher, son of Maurice; the younger Gallagher earned a top finish of 20th at Texas.
Spencer Gallagher is slated to run a full-time ARCA Racing Series schedule in 2014 as well as a part-time schedule in Trucks; Coulter will also serve as his driving coach. Jeff Stankiewicz is reportedly set to be Coulter’s crew chief in 2014.
According to Godfather Motorsports, an official announcement may come as early as next week.
