In an interview this week, Michelle “Bombshell” McGee claimed that Jesse James duped her into having an affair with him by telling her that he and Sandra Bullock were no longer together.

The story Jesse James gave Michelle Bombshell McGee about being separated from Sandra Bullock is a common ploy used by married men who are cheating on their wives.

Sandra Bullock’s acceptance speech at the Oscars made it clear to McGee that Jesse James had lied to her about the status of his marriage. The tattoo covered model felt she had no choice but to go public with the details of their 11-month affair.

"I feel like I was duped just as much as Sandra was.” said Michelle McGee. “ I feel like I was lied to just as much as she was."

How Michelle McGee Was Duped

There are usually signs along the way which can alert a single woman that she’s dealing with a married man in disguise. See 20 Signs You Might Be Dating a Married Man.

One dead giveaway is that a married man will make it pretty obvious that his primary interest is sex. The topic will come up early in your first phone conversation, or on your first date.

According to Michelle “Bombshell” McGee, she and Jesse James had sex in his office, early on. That should have been her first clue.

If a man is married, he’ll be somewhat evasive about topics of conversation that involve his “estranged “ or so-called “divorced” wife – like how long they’ve been separated, or when their divorce was final.

McGee says that when she asked Jesse James about his relationship with Sandra Bullock, he replied, She doesn’t live here. She has a house in Austin. She is filming, and I can’t talk about it. Says McGee, "He made it clear, they weren't together. I believed him."

Another sign that the man you’re seeing may be married is that he takes you out on private, rather than public dates. He can’t take a chance that the two of you will be seen.

McGee said that when she’d mention things to Jesse James like “'Let's go on a ride or out to dinner,” he would tell her “I can't really do that.”

Although Michelle said that she began to have suspicions, she obviously took what Jesse James told her at face value, and made no attempt to find out if what he told her was really the truth.

How to make Sure You’re Not Dating a Married Man

Married men will lie to single women.  Dating deception is very common.

If you don’t want to be taken advantage of, it’s up to you to find out the truth.

The best way to do that is to get as much personal information as possible about a man when you first start dating him. – his address, his occupation, where he works, where he attended school, where he was born, other places he lived, etc.

You might even ask him if he’s ever been married before. Though if he’s a married man cheating on his wife, he probably won’t tell you the truth.

You don’t have to sound like you’re interrogating him. Most of these questions can be worked into a casual conversation. It’s common to be curious about someone you’ve just met.

Once you get some basic information, run an online background check.

A reputable online service like www.CheatingSpouseBackgroundCheck.com  makes it easy to access marriage, divorce, and other public records so you can confirm what you’ve been told, and find out other things you might want to know.

You can even find out information it may have never occurred to you to ask.

• Does he have a criminal record?
• Does he really own that business he told you was his?
• Is that really his house, or is someone else’s name on the deed?

If you find out that he’s lied to you, you might want to rethink whether or not you want to get (or remain) involved.
