On Friday according to the Canadian Press, it was reported that Mixed Martial Arts superstar Georges St-Pierre of Saint-Isidore, Quebec would vacate his Ultimate Fighting Championship's title for personal reasons.
St-Pierre has been one of Canada's most recognizable athletes over the last decade and has been the Canadian face for mixed martial arts.
In 2010, it was reported that St-Pierre was possibly interested in representing Canada in wrestling at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. However nothing came out of that rumour, and St-Pierre remained an ultimate fighter.
Now, St-Pierre is 32 years old, and will be 35 years old at the time of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Could there be a possibility St-Pierre could be an Olympic wrestler? Canadian sports fans can dream.
St-Pierre did announce he would reconsider coming back to MMA and the UFC at a later date, but in the meantime there is no report what St-Pierre will be up to. A change in aggressive sports might make St-Pierre even more of a Canadian icon than he is today.
