Season 10 of “Grey’s Anatomy” has been an emotionally charged one, both for fans and for the character of Cristina Yang. Yang, played to perfection by Sandra Oh, saw a myriad of trials and tribulations this season and ultimately left Grey Sloane memorial Hospital for the opportunity of a lifetime. All that high drama may have set up Oh for an Emmy according to Wetpaint on June 18.
The season started with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina fighting over who was the belter doctor and who had made the right career/life choices. Just when it seemed the 2 besties would never make up, they found a way to patch things up.
Cristina’s on-again-off-again relationship with Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) nearly broke our hearts multiple times. Though we have no doubt about how much these2 love each other, sometimes love isn’t enough to make a relationship work.
Then there was the drama over her loss of the Harper Avery Award. Reeling from the news that as long as she worked at Grey Sloane Memorial Hospital, she could never win it, Cristina was driven to face one of the biggest moments of her life – coming face to face with Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington).
When she finally has the chance to face him, she is at first a confused bundle of nerves on the inside, confiding only in her “person,” Meredith, while remaining cool and aloof on the outside. She finally gets to tell him off and then lands the dream job of a lifetime – running her own hospital where she can do the research she’s only dreamed of before. This was the perfect finish for everyone’s favorite doctor.
Oh has been nominated for the role of Cristina before back in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 but she’s never taken home the trophy. She has, however won a SAG and a Golden Globe for her portrayal of the no nonsense doctor. As for season 10, the show has submitted 27 Emmy entries. Surely she will snag a nomination and an award.
The Emmys will be awarded in August but the list of nominees hasn’t been released yet. Online voting for those who are eligible to vote is underway. Here’s hoping Sandra Oh has better luck winning the award than her character did on the show. “Grey’s Anatomy” will return to ABC in September with season 11.
