Could Libya become the world's solar power leader?

A new study by Nottingham Trent University suggests Libya may produce almost seven times more power from solar energy than oil per day.

Libya is located in North Africa along the Tropic of Cancer. This location provides ample sunlight throughout the day. Libya's climate include few cloudy days, further increasing their potential solar output if developed.

Currently, Libya produces 1.4 million barrels of oil per day. The study estimates Libya could produce the energy equivalent of 7 million barrels of oil per day by developing 0.01 percent of the desert landscape into a solar farm.

If properly harnessed, Libya could become a global leader in solar power production, exporting electricity to other nations. Investment in solar technology and power plants today could help propel Libya towards an energy future no longer dependent on fossil fuels. Such progress could become an example to other developing nations.
