This morning ‘City of Bones’ screenwriter I. Marlene King responded to a fan’s question of when ‘City of Bones’ filming begin by tweeting, “Rumor has it August…but that is a rumor.” King knows something of rumors. She is the writer for the popular show ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ which deals with a lot of mystery and rumors.
Lately there has been hope that Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments fans could receive movie news soon in regards to the series’ first film, ‘City of Bones.’ Last week King tweeted, “Do you know The Mortal Instruments Books? I have some exciting news!” This obviously caused a lot of excitement. In November King turned in her ‘City of Bones’ script to Screen Gems. I asked Clare about that script and she said, “I really like it. The screenplay is the backbone of a movie and this version is much closer to the book. There is a long line of people that must sign-off on the script before filming can start.” Could King’s good news be that the script is approved?
After fans waiting on baited breath, King tweeted, “I'm sorry. I've said as much as I can. More news soon I promise.” She followed that up with, “I think I have done you proud. TMI, 'The Mortal Instrument' is an Amazing book series by @Cassieclare I have adapted as a movie. So excited for you all to see!”
Also last week we learned that ‘City of Bones’ star Lily Collins dropped out from her attachment to ‘The Evil Dead’ remake citing a scheduling conflict. Though no official news of a production start has been announced or confirmed, all of this news seems awfully attractive to fans that have been waiting for something for a long time.
If King’s rumor of filming starting in August, ‘City of Bones’ still has a long way to come. Screen Gems still needs a cast. The only actors signed on to this project are Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower. We have seen how fast casting can come together. A great example of this is ‘The Hunger Games’ movie, which comes out this March. (If you are fan of that series be sure and follow The Hunger Games Examiner.)
In the meantime, Mortal Instruments must continue to wait for their “day” to come but with these latest developments there is a good chance that news will come soon.
‘Pretty Little Liars,’ the hit show that I. Marlene King writes airs tonight on ABC Family.
