Could an X-Men Gambit movie happen with Channing Tatum?

“X-Men” films are extremely popular; fans have followed the movie series since Bryan Singer directed “X-Men” 14 years ago in 2000. Now, fans are highly anticipating the latest installment, “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which arrives to theaters this summer. While a sequel to “Days of Future Past” is already in the works, there are other ways for this series to continue growing. On Wednesday, CinemaBlend surfaced rumors that producer Lauren Shuler Donner is thinking of a “Gambit” solo-film, with Channing Tatum attached to star.

After accepting his Trailblazer award at the MTV Movie Awards, Tatum spoke with MTV about the Gambit rumors and if he would like to star as the character. “I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. And I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess…I don’t know. I just related to him. He’s just kind of suave…”

So Donner and Tatum have sat down to talk about this? The plans to produce this film must be more than talk for the two to have gotten together. Tatum finished commenting on this with, “If the stars align, I would die to play it. I’m already working on the accent. It’s crappy at the moment.” It seems like it’s more likely to happen than not. There’s just more making a film than casting, there has to be a writer, availability, etc.

Besides Gambit, Donner has offered the ideas of standalone films for Mystique, Deadpool, and more, so I would say we’ll be hearing about one very soon. In the meantime, catch “X-Men: Days of Future Past” in theaters on May 23. Its sequel, “X-Men: Apocalypse” will follow on May 27, 2016. Channing Tatum will be in theaters soon with “22 Jump Street” and “Jupiter Ascending.”
