"Cougar Town" season 4 premiered on TBS Tuesday, Jan. 8, with "Blue Sunday," and it was the same comedy show just on a different network.
"I can't believe we're finally back." –Jules
"Seriously, it feels like we've been gone over a year." –Laurie
"I honestly thought we might never be in this kitchen again, just hanging out, telling our stories to each other, to the world." –Jules
They're back! How else could "Cougar Town" have opened its new season but with the gang entering Jules (Courteney Cox) and Grayson's (Josh Hopkins) house with a nod to what went on behind-the-scenes and drinking wine? And if you had somehow forgotten that the series is now on a new network, the title card was a good reminder: "welcome BACK to Cougar Town. Thanks, TBS. Can we curse on TV now?"
Married life. It was Jules and Grayson's first week of marriage, and he faced the trouble with setting precedents—becoming her "coffee bitch" and "wine guy." So what did he get out of it? She pulled hairs out of his ears, which she enjoyed. He also had to take the blame when Dream Grayson did something Jules didn't like (in this case, hitting on a woman in his bar), and Jules began feeling "blue"—but she got "dark blue" when she got blue—as she admitted to Ellie (Christa Miller) and Laurie (Busy Philipps). She didn't want Grayson to think he married a woman with "junk in the trunk" (which she changed to mean emotional baggage). Ellie tried to intervene and get Grayson to apologize, warning him that anyone with estrogen (which apparently includes Andy) would be dragged down if Jules got very blue. Though he had his doubts, that changed when Jules was put over the edge after her ice cream fell off the cone. In the end, Grayson did apologize—with wine, of course.
Disturbing behavior. After Ellie took an Ambien and gave Andy (Ian Gomez) the go-ahead to do what he wanted, he crossed some things off his naughty bucket list and told Jules one. Whatever it was, it left Ellie with a sore neck, a rug burn on her forehead, and Jules disturbed. After finding out Ellie talked to Grayson, Jules got back at her by telling her what Andy did as her punishment. "I am so turned on right now," Ellie said after.
Running from conflict. The men loved to run from their problems, evident in "Blue Sunday" as Bobby (Brian Van Holt) ran from Jerry, whom he owed six dollars, Andy ran from work, and Travis (Dan Byrd) ran from talking to Laurie, who was wondering if she and Wade could make their relationship work over the phone, about how he felt.
"Cougar Town" season 4 airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on TBS. What did you think of the premiere, "Blue Sunday"?
