The question on the minds of many San Francisco Bay Area residents as we head into the July 4th Independence Day weekend 2014 is: Are the stores including Costco, Walmart, Target open or closed? Many of us will have last minute holiday purchases we need to make while others just enjoy shopping.
The bad news for Costco shoppers but not Costco employees is that Costco stores will be closed on the Fourth of July, Epoch Times reported Thursday, July 3. Costco holidays are Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Independence Day (AKA 4th of July) Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Costco remains open on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day in January, Presidents Day and other holidays not mentioned above.
Walmart stores are open on July 4, most with regular Friday hours, but call ahead to year store to make sure before you leave the house.
Target stores will be also be open on Friday, July 4, 2014. Target often honors other holidays, but it will be a working day this Independence day.
All banks will be closed on July 4, 2014.
The stock market will be closed on the Fourth of July
Almost all schools will be closed on July 4, 2014.
Most public transit agencies will operate on a Sunday schedule on July 4.
Most supermarkets including Safeway will remain open on July 4.
Post offices, mail delivery
There will be no mail delivery on July 4, 2014 and most Post Offices will remain closed.

Most stores will be open on July 4, with the notable exception of Costco. Costco will reopen on Saturday, July 5, 2014. But the other big stores including Walmart and Target will remain open during the July 4th holiday.
