Costars react to James Avery's death but there was one reaction in particular that people have been waiting for. Actor Will Smith was very close to Avery back in the day when they acted together on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air." On Jan. 2, Metro UK reported that some fans were duped by a fake Will Smith account that asked fans to retweet a message that read "R.I.P. Uncle Phil."

According to the Atlanta Black Star, several "real" costars have reacted to Avery's death, all of them expressing their condolences and sharing some memories they have of him. See some of the reactions below.

Costars react to James Avery death

"I was hoping to start the new year differently but we have lost yet another friend. James Avery who we all lovingly know as Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince has passed. Our condolences to aunt Florence (his mother), Miss Barbara (his wife) and all those who loved him. Rest in peace James," tweeted Jada Pinkett Smith.

"Sending condolences to the family of James Avery, ‘Uncle Phil’ of the Fresh Prince. I’ll always remember how warm he was to me on set," tweeted model/actress Tyra Banks.

"James was my teacher my protector & the most magnificent actor. We’re feeling his loss very deeply. He'll always be apart of me #JamesAvery (sic)," tweeted Tatyana Ali who played Ashley Banks on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air."

"The world has lost a truly special man. I am very saddened to say that James Avery has passed. Even though he played my father on TV, he was a wonderful father figure to me in life. He will be deeply missed," Alfonso Ribeiro wrote on Facebook.

More costars will react to James Avery's death as the week goes on. Will Smith still has not reacted publicly and it's unknown if he will. His Facebook page has not been updated since Dec. 23.
