Costa Rica came in as underdogs against Uruguay in their Group D match on Saturday afternoon, but Los Ticos put together an impressive second half display to topple their group rivals 3-1.
Uruguay, who came into this game without their star forward Luis Suarez, got off to a 1-0 lead after a penalty kick was given during the 24th minute.
However, as the second half got underway, Costa Rica came out determined to get something going, as they marched forward, and finally scored the equalizer, when Joel Campbell found the back of the net during the 54th minute.
Not content with tying the game, Costa Rica scored only three minutes later via Oscar Duarte, who headed one in following a free kick from Christian Bolayos.
By then, Uruguay seemed in shambles, and the injured Suarez was summoned to get warmed up on the sideline. Costa Rica though, wasn't finished yet, as the 86th minute saw a third goal from their side when Marcos Urena put the nail in the coffin. By that point, Luis Suarez was asked to remain on the bench as Uruguay burned through their three substitutions.
