Continuing through August 10th Barnes and Nobles bookstores are running a national event titled Get Pop Cultured that provides in store events and activities relevant to today’s pop culture themes with national topics and local talent at local stores. The event began the weekend of July 18th. This past week-end presented the opportunity to meet Miami Artist and Cosplayer Extraordinaire, ZipperTan, at the Fort Lauderdale Barnes and Noble, where with Mervyn McKoy of Paper Lab Studios she was teaching enthusiastic young artists to draw DC Comic style.

At this event Miami’s ZipperTan was looking excellent in one of her own Cosplay creations - she has been designing and creating her own costume for ten years - and her enthusiasm and experience are evident in her work and demeanor. She went right into character the minute she stood to pose and you can see how much she enjoys this facet of her professional life. For those of you making the trip up to Tampa this coming weekend for August 1-3, 2014, Tampa Bay Comic Con, ZipperTan will be at Booth #615.

Despite being very busy with a table full of eager young artists and curious parents, she was nice enough to take a moment from her busy schedule and pose for Examiner and update us on some upcoming South Florida events.

Coming to the Fort Lauderdale Marriott on Saturday, August 9, 2014 is the Creator Owned Expo which will run from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Creator Owned, by the way, means the creators own the rights to their own work, even if they are published or distributed by a large company. Check out the Danny Danger video on the event web site for more information about how this works.

There is a full line-up of activities, events and panels for artists, filmmakers, comic, anime and animation enthusiasts and this year is the first annual C.O.E. costume contest with ZipperTan hosting. Come out and show your Cosplay skills and win “awesome prizes!”

The costume contest is at 5:00 PM and contestants can find the forms for the contest at the Registration Table in front. Be aware that you must pre-register and that pre-registration for the costume contest closes at 4:00 pm on August 9, 2014.

Then coming on September 27th and 28th 2014 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center is Palm Con. This year the popular comic book and collectibles show expands from “a one day event to a two day celebration.”

Let’s see the best of Miami and South Florida Costumers and Cosplayers showcasing their skills and talents at these upcoming events!
