Cosplay Spotlight: Romi Lia (Photos)

Cosplay is here to stay! The art of cosplay is part of the large pop culture world where video games, comic books, anime and cosplay have taken it by storm and Romi Lia has been a ten-year veteran at it. For those unaware, cosplay (costume play) is a performance art where participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea, often interacting to create a subculture centered on role-play. Since 1990, cosplay has been picking up as a hobby and Romi Lia is one of those people who enjoy this world. Her real name is Romina and as mentioned before, she’s been doing it for about ten years now. Romina grew up in Merlo, Buenos Aires and still lives in Argentina today. Her secret identity (day job) is as a Receptionist at a software development company, while also holding a Hotel Management degree and has five dogs. She started attending cons every weekend starting in 2003 and that’s where Romina discovered the world of cosplay. While attending the cons, many of her friends told her about how beautiful they felt when making their cosplay so Romina decided to give it a try and had her grandmother help develop her first costume, and has been doing it ever since.

Now she makes her own on a regular basis and attends almost every con in Argentina, but plans on making a trip to the San Diego Comic-Con and Blizzcon in 2014. If she had to pick, Romina’s favorite genre is comics saying, “I love comics! They’re my favorite! I think I’m amazed by all superheroes.” To date, Romina mentions the best cosplay she’s done so far is Paladin from the World of Warcraft stating it took her three months to complete and “lots of money!” When not doing cosplay, Romina likes playing a lot of role-playing games like World of Warcraft (WoW), Starcraft and her Playstation 3 games, while on the weekends, she likes to hang out with friends and make dinner together. Some of her upcoming projects are a lot of WoW cosplays and some secret comic book cosplay projects. You can also see her posing in a Psylocke costume designed by Lady Lemon. Fans of cosplay should definitely keep an eye out for Romi Lia, because I’m sure she’ll be making headlines as one of Argentina’s cosplay beauties so keep an eye out for her future projects.

Romina wanted to say thank you and hopes people like the interview. Also, if you would like to see more of Romi Lia, check her cosplay sites out below by clicking on them:
