According to Nerd Reactor on Aug. 26, cosplay photographer Darrell Ardita is poised to sue SyFy's new reality show "Heroes of Cosplay" due to the series having not received permission from Ardita to use his photographs on the show. Apparently, there is a settlement in the works of $28,000 and a fee for copyright infringement involved, but if both SyFy and NBC do not go through with the deal, BZG Studios' photographer will go through with the lawsuit.
Upon Adita's interaction with NBC, the company then turned around to threaten the career of the cosplayers. Ardita then had this to say:
“Very soon after my response, SyFy did the unthinkable. They turned it around and started attacking the cosplayers in question – which was completely not my intention. SyFy threatened to compromise the careers of the cosplayers featured in the show. Reality TV production at its best".
Prior to this, the show has gotten a lot of criticism from many cosplay fans usually due to the focus only being on the highly attractive females who partake in the hobby. Not only that, but the competitive aspects as well. This include the drama of a cosplaying competitor undergoing the struggles that involves their creation since it's inception to the day it is presented.
