Cory Monteith's mom, Ann McGregor, is defending her late son against critics who claim that he doesn't deserve the special in memoriam honor at the 2013 Emmy Awards.
On September 21, 2013, Jack Klugman's son, Adam Klugman, had argued that his late father was unfairly denied a tribute at the Emmys, and that Cory didn't deserve such an honor. He also argued that the decision to honor the "Glee" star was an attempt to pander to younger viewers.
Now, Ann is responding to Adam's comments. She argues that Cory had been on a path to greatness, not only in acting and singing, but also in his charitable work, before his life was tragically cut short at age 31.
As she told TMZ on September 22, "If he had lived 30 more years he would have accomplished much more."
Jack Klugman had an illustrious career that spanned five decades and included three Emmy Awards, so it's understandable that Adam would have wanted his father's legacy to be honored. However, it seems a bit unnecessary to throw shade at the late Canadian actor.
Cory may not have won an Emmy during his young career, but his legacy should not be measured by awards alone. The emotional outpouring that has resulted since his passing shows just how much of an impact he had made both as an actor and as a man.
It's actually a shame that he was never nominated for an Emmy during his career. Throughout four seasons of "Glee," he had consistently delivered compelling material, both comedic and dramatic. He took what could have been a one-dimensional milquetoast character and made him human and believable.
Some of Cory's most powerful moments on the show include the season 1 scene with Mike O'Malley, the Finchel breakup scene in season 3, and the hotel room fight scene with Brody in season 4.
Cory was a remarkably gifted actor, as well as an extraordinary human being. It's a shame to think of how much more he would have been able to accomplish, both on and off-screen, had he not lost the battle with his personal demons.
Ann is right--Cory is absolutely deserving of his honor at the 2013 Emmy Awards.
