Cory Monteith of 'Glee' voluntarily seeks rehab

Times are not so gleeful for Cory Monteith, known as Finn Huston on Fox’s “Glee.” Monteith is heading back to rehab for his addiction.

Monteith’s representative confirmed the 30-year-old actor has voluntarily admitted himself to the facility for his substance addiction. The spokesman stated Monteith asks for respect and privacy during his recovery.

The news of Monteith heading for rehab was posted on his official website. It is the second trip to a rehab facility for Monteith. When he was 19, he publicly spoke about his addiction, stating he took “just anything and everything.”

Monteith’s is currently dating his co-star of “Glee,” Lea Michele. She told People magazine that she loves and supports him in his endeavors to regain his health. Michele tells People that she is proud that he is doing something about it.

In a 2011 interview with Parade magazine, Monteith stated he first entered rehab at the age of 19. He was missing classes at 13 to drink alcohol and smoke pot. He made his rounds through 12 different schools, including those offering programs for troubled teens.

Monteith states:

I burned a lot of bridges. I was out of control.

During this time, his mother joined friends for an intervention to get him into rehab. Monteith remained sober for a while. He eventually returned to drug use. Stealing a larger amount of money from a family member woke him up to his situation.

I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high and they’ll be famous actors, too. But for those people who might give up: get real about what you want and go after it.

According to Deadline Hollywood, “Glee” has two episodes remaining to shoot. Filming of the series will continue on schedule. Monteith’s character will be missing from the episodes, although an explanation in the storyline will be added.

Cory is a beloved member of the “Glee” family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment. Everyone at the show wishes him well and look forward to his return.
