Cory Denoncourt died in a snowbank accident this week after severe injuries he sustained from a dangerous fall while playing in the snow with a close friend. The 10-year-old boy was killed when the tall snowbank he was having fun in suddenly collapsed without warning. New York officials now hope that this young child’s tragic example may remind other children to be aware of their surroundings and remember that while snow can be enjoyable, it can be treacherous, too. ECanadaNow tells the latest details on this young boy’s life taken too soon this Saturday, Dec. 20, 2013.

The Cory Denoncourt snowbank story first started trending after the 10-year-old child’s tragic accident began spreading online in the hopes that it might serve as a warning for other children to play safely in the snow. The boy died this Thursday when the wounds he suffered from the abrupt fall proved fatal. While playing with a friend outside his family’s house in Greece, New York young Cory tumbled down in the middle of building a snow fort.

The police report states that the snowbank caved in while the boy was working to build a very big fort with his peer on Wednesday afternoon. As the high-mounted snow fell, it took 10-year-old Cory Denoncourt with it, trapping him below. Other kids that were playing near the apartment home quickly banded together to try and pull the boy from the snow. The kids were unable to do it fast enough alone, so help from adult strangers was called for by the worried friends on the scene.

After the boy was at last plucked from the heavy snowfall that had trapped him for a couple harrowing minutes, the boy was rushed to a hospital to try and remedy any damage the 10-year-old sustained from the accident. He was said to have arrived in critical condition, but the snowbank incident ultimately killed him; he tragically died late Thursday night because of the severe injuries following the collapse.

Local police officials have added in the Cory Denoncourt snowbank tragedy that while a fatal example such as this is never desired under any circumstances, the case should still stand as a reminder and serious warning for other kids who want to have a fun day out playing in the snow.

“As the winter weather continues this year, cops are reminding all children to take every precaution when they are playing in the snow and ice. Additionally, it is strongly recommended that children are never alone when playing in the snow.”
