Mini Corvettes will be racing around the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky to benefit Junior Achievement on Saturday.
The National Corvette Museum is hoping to raise money for a full size motorsports venue across I 65 from museum so eventually full size Corvettes will be racing in the future.
In the meantime, local businesses sponsor teams of tiny cars with Corvette look-alike bodies and four cycle engines.
There is practice, pit competitions, and technical inspection before heat racing gets underway at 8 :30 a.m. A car show will be at 9:30 a.m. with final races at 12:30 p.m.
Created in 1995, the Mini Corvette Challenge is a fundraising and awareness-building event for Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky.
In the past 15 years, the event has generated more than $400,000 in funding used to increase JA programming in Allen, Barren, Logan, Simpson, and Warren counties.

Teams are very serious about the competition. Practices and tune-up sessions start well before race day. Special paint jobs are applied and team uniforms are fitted. These are not a bunch of drivers wearing the same tee shirts. Many teams have full racing uniforms. At least one member of the team must be female and at least one pit stop, including changing one tire is mandatory during the race.
