Despite Wednesday's announcement of PlayStation Plus members receiving access to the "Destiny Beta," it turns out the only way PlayStation 4 owners will play it is if they pre-ordered the game.

On the official European PlayStation Blog, PlayStation Plus content manager Chris Howe originally wrote PlayStation Plus members will have access to the console-exclusive "Destiny Beta" set for July 17th. Gameranx has the original wording of the announcement.

I hope you've recovered from the excitement of E3 and are ready for an epic July. Not only are we bringing you a great mix of games but there’s also the Destiny beta, which kicks off on 17th July exclusively on PlayStation. If you’re a PlayStation Plus member you will be able to fully experience Destiny and its incredible multiplayer.

Chris Owen, community manager for the Europe PlayStation Blog, also confirmed the news. However, this was not the case. Owen later said on Twitter the "Destiny Beta" is still only available to those who pre-ordered the game. "Update: The 'Destiny Beta' will be available via pre-order only. The blog post is worded incorrectly and will be amended," Owen tweeted.

During the "Destiny Alpha," which was openly available to PS4 owners during the week of E3, over six million players logged in and got their game on. "Destiny" developer Bungie also revealed other impressive stats, such as 149,522,313 Primary Weapon Kills and 667,966 Public Events Joined. Bungie said the "Destiny Alpha" has greatly helped shape the development of the game and that the beta will further aid the online experience. A commemorative t-shirt based on the most quoted line in the "Destiny Alpha," "The Wizard came from the Moon," is being sold at the Bungie store.

"Destiny" will launch September 9th for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One game consoles. A white PS4 bundle is currently up for pre-order and PS4 players will have access to exclusive content in the game for one year.
