If mentality is an aspect of universal intelligence then ‘corporate mentality’ as it exists at the time of this writing is an oxymoron. There are several facts which lead to this conclusion which is an unfortunate part of our world culture as it exists today.
By its own rules the corporation is oriented toward the ‘bottom line’. This means that no matter how elevated the mission statement and the vision statements of a corporation are they are subservient to profits. And, profits need to be of a certain quantity that is predictable in order for the corporation to maintain a public value in terms of its shares on the stock market.
This seems a very good way to stabilize income but at what expense? The corporation is like the ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ where a blood eating plant finds ways to perpetuate itself on human blood. All employees from the janitorial staff to the CEO of a corporation are watched closely to meet economic efficiency standards or else be terminated. Competition and emotional violence predominate in the workplace. Stress leads to physical and mental illness.
Corporations are not known for their ecological positions in a time of great ecological pressure to establish a sustainable world economy, ecology and population. Corporations are good at appearing ‘green’ but service to profits constantly undermines the integrity of individuals serving corporate mentality.
In some cases like the recent mortgage backed securities scandal, the public has been forced into supporting egregious financial crimes which have gone unpunished because of the importance of the bottom line profits and existence of corporations who are now ‘too big to fail’.
In terms of spirituality there is nothing in the corporate mentality to be opposed. Creation of a new order will occur spontaneously and change the mentality of corporations from within. As more and more people find inner peace by placing principles of service above self aggrandizement there will be no question about the rapid transformation of the selfish ideas which serve material gain into realized ideals that incorporate the true spirit of living now; peace, joy and love.
