A fight over drugs and money in the parking lot of a Wells Fargo bank ended with one man stabbed to death and another seriously injured in Richland County earlier this week.

On Thursday, the Richland County coroner identified the deceased as Mr. Leroy Simon, 58, of 2100 LeGrand Road in Columbia.

Mr. Simon died of a stab wound to the chest at 5:43 p.m. Tuesday in the emergency room at Palmetto Health Richland, Coroner Mr. Gary Watts said.

Richland County Sheriff’s deputies said the stabbing happened around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo bank on Farrow Road.

“The two were fighting over drugs and money, both pulled out a knife and cut each other,” the sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Curtis Wilson said.

When deputies arrived, they found one of the men still on the scene, according to The State newspaper. Mr. Simon had driven away, but was caught in his vehicle less than two miles away in the 2100 block of LeGrand Road.

Both were transported to the hospital, he said. So far, deputies are still trying to determine who was the attacker and who was the victim.

They have not released the name of the other man involved in the incident and his condition was unknown Thursday.
