A robbery suspect was shot to death after he ran over his alleged accomplice while driving towards two deputies Friday in Richland County.
On Saturday, the coroner’s office identified the dead suspect as Mr. Eddie Hollins, 33, of 4900 Holmes Ave. in Columbia.
The shooting happened Friday morning on Two Notch Road when Mr. Hollins allegedly attempted to run over the two deputies, Coroner Mr. Gary Watts said.
Mr. Hollins and another suspect were allegedly caught breaking into a business on Two Notch Road and they attempted to flee, Mr. Watts said.
“Mr. Hollins ran over the other suspect and then was shot in his vehicle as he drove towards the deputies,” Mr. Watts said. “He left the scene and crashed a short distance away into another building.”
An autopsy conducted Saturday showed Mr. Hollins died from complications of gunshot wounds to the upper body.
The other suspect is in critical condition at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, Mr. Watts said.
The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
