Coroner: Brittany Murphy cause of death community acquired pneumonia is just one cause. Thursday, both Brittany Murphy’s cause of death report was released from the coroner’s office. Brittany Murphy's main causes of death were cited as community acquired pneumonia (CAP), iron deficiency anemia, and multiple drug intoxication.
Community acquired pneumonia is an infection of the lungs. The lungs are filled with fluid which won’t allow oxygen absorption and then the lungs work inefficiently. Community acquired pneumonia can occur in any age group. It causes difficulty in breathing, fever, chest pains, and cough.
Some CAP cases are serious enough to require hospitalization and some do not. There is a vaccination that can be given in the first year of life to help reduce the chance of getting CAP.

Murphy died December 20, 2009 after collapsing in her bathroom. Murphy went into cardiac arrest, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead at the scene at 10:04 am that Sunday. The autopsy was completed Monday, but the cause of death was just release Thursday after the toxicology reports came back. A list of prescription medications that Murphy was taking was released.
