According to the Canadian Press, Calgary Stampeders' running back Jon Cornish and punter Rob Maver were honoured for their performances during week 16 of the Canadian Football League season on Wednesday.
Cornish was named the top Canadian and Maver was named the special teams player of the week as the Stampeders defeated the British Columbia Lions 40-26 on Friday evening at McMahon Stadium.
Cornish had 15 carries for 130 yards rushing and a touchdown. The native of New Westminster, British Columbia also had 35 yards receiving. Maver, a native of Brampton, Ontario, had five punts for a total of 245 yards. His longest punt was for 57 yards.
With the win, the Stampeders improve to 12-3 on the season and have a four point lead on the Saskatchewan Roughriders for first place in the Western Division. The Stampeders next play the Edmonton Eskimos Friday night at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.
