According to Ian Busby of the Calgary Sun, Calgary Stampeders' running back Jon Cornish and bobsledder Kaillie Humphries have been named the 2012 Calgary male and female athlete of the year by the Calgary Booster Club on Wednesday.
Cornish, a native of New Westminster, British Columbia, led the Canadian Football League in rushing yards in 2012 with 1457 yards. Cornish had 180 more yards than Kory Sheets of the Saskatchewan Roughriders this past season.
Cornish, who had 80.9 yards per game, set a CFL record for the most rushing yards in a season by a Canadian, and was named the Most Outstanding Canadian in the Canadian Football League.
Humphries, who won the Henry Viney Trophy, meanwhile had a remarkable bobsled season. Humphries, who also won the Calgary Athlete of the Year in 2012 by www.examiner.com, won seven straight World Cup races and won the World Championship in women's bobsledding with Jennifer Ciochetti in Lake Placid, New York.
