According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, Calgary Stampeders' defensive end Charleston Hughes and running back Jon Cornish were honoured for their week 18 performances in the Canadian Football League. Hughes was named the defensive player of the week, while Cornish was named the top Canadian.
Cornish rushed twenty times for 109 yards and a touchdown, and also caught two passes for 12 yards, and had two tackles. His three yard touchdown run was the game winning touchdown with 1:48 left in the game as the Stampeders defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 29-25.
Hughes meanwhile had five tackles and a game high three sacks.
This season, Hughes leads the Canadian Football League with 18 sacks, while Cornish leads the Canadian Football League with 1799 yards. Cornish has 201 rushing yards more than Kory Sheets of the Saskatchewan Roughriders heading into the final game of the regular season. On Friday, the Calgary Stampeders play the British Columbia Lions and on Saturday the Saskatchewan Roughriders host the Edmonton Eskimos.
