What? You don’t think it’s plausible? Why not? Just look at some of the bizarre sports we have to kill time watching when the Olympics are on TV. A great number of them are not especially exciting to say the least! Does Synchronized Swimming, 5000 Meter Run, Cross Country Skiing ring a bell? The majority could fall asleep after a few short minutes of watching these Olympic events. Some say the Olympics needs a severe overhaul. Times have changed, people have changed and entertainment has changed. Even though we all respect the history of the Olympics and athletes alike, in modern times, most of the events are not what people DO anymore. People want to see exciting events, events which test the physical and intellectual competence of human beings in a whole new, fresh perspective. How would Heracles (the Roman Hercules), a son of Zeus, place in a Cornhole event? Not all Olympic events require brute strength. Observe events like Shooting, Archery and Curling and you will quickly recognize physical attributes such as attentiveness, nimbleness, dexterity, focus come into play.

Cornhole requires all these attributes and more! We might compare Cornhole to an Olympic event that combines Curling, Shooting and Archery with maybe a small flavor of Table Tennis. The strategy and concentrations are similar. Not to mention, people love to watch Cornhole! It would make a marvelous Olympic event. Think about it. The Japanese team would be sipping their Sake while shouting out explanations we don’t quite understand, the Mexican team would be pounding down shots of Tequila, having an excellent time and the Americans would be enjoying their economical beers, giving their partners “high-fives” as they airmail cornhole after cornhole. What a great event this would make. The sponsorships could be enormous!

In all seriousness, the Olympic committee should start taking a look at other sports out there. Cornhole could be a realistic event well worth consideration one day.
