Fans of the Deadliest Catch show cheered when Josh and Jake Harris finally bought the Cornelia Marie so they can continue with their family legacy. However, many fans were disappointed today when they read Josh Harris’s announcement on Facebook. The Cornelia Marie will not be on the Deadliest Catch.
Josh wrote, "So to all my fans that watched the show, Deadliest Catch, the Cornelia Marie was not optioned this year so we regretfully will not be on the show anymore. Thank you for all the support we will still be fishing. Things may still get filmed but most likely not through Discovery. Sorry to let people down, things with Discovery couldn't meet up with what we needed, so I apologize to all but this is where we are but this is where we are. There may be another company this year that we go with but for now we will just fish. Jake and I love you for all your support over the years and most of all from the old man, thank you for everything!"
Fans voiced the disappointment on Josh’s Facebook page. Many said that the Cornelia Marie was the only reason why they watched the “Deadliest Catch” and many of them said they would no longer watch the show this season. The fans were sorry to hear the news, but they wished the brothers well in their fishing season.
The late Phil Harris was the captain of the Cornelia Marie. He passed away on February 10, 2010. It was the rough and tough personality of Captain Phil that drew fans to love him and the Cornelia Marie. He continued to allow the camera man to film his story through his final days. His burial at sea drew one of the largest television audiences in history. Fans still mourn his passing, and many feel that the show lost a major element when Phil died.
Jake Harris worked on the F/V Northwestern under captain Sig Hansen for one year. Jake has been battling a drug addiction problem and has kept a low profile. He must have past his addictions or Josh would not allow his brother onboard.
Josh Harris worked on the F/V Time Bandit until this year when Captains Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand kicked him off their boat. Luckily by that time, Josh had just acquired the Cornelia Marie.
