Corn commerce celebrated with costumed characters at Fanthrop Inn

Early Texas settlers may not have had much cash on hand, but they did have another gold-backed resource: corn. Corn and other agricultural currency such as wheat or eggs were common as people spread out across the United States in the 19th century. Visitors to Fanthrop Inn State Historic Site Feb. 11 will interact with 1850’s characters while listening to the sweet sounds of Dulcimer music and the heartfelt musings of a cowboy poet. Presentations will be given at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and will last about half an hour. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $4 for adults and $2 for children. The Fanthrop Inn State Historic Site is located off Highway 90 about 10 miles east of Texas Highway 6 in Navasota, about 25 miles south of College Station.
